AURSC

AUSTRALIAN ROOT SERVER CONFEDERATION

End User with UNIX.  Easy!

This is fairly painless. In fact it's really simple.  Two options exist.  If your server is running a NAMED (Bind) server, then you should follow these instructions.  If you don't have a NAMED daemon then continue on this page.

END USER ON UNIX

  1. Edit /etc/resolv.conf   (well that's where it is most times.)

  2. Look at the example and add the 'nameserver' commands to reflect AURSC.   You must put them in before (or remove any existing) name servers, or it won't work.

    rs2:/etc# joe resolv.conf
    domain (whatever.your.domain.name.is)
    nameserver 203.21.205.1
    nameserver 203.21.205.20
  3. Save the file.

  4. The quickest way to test is to use DIG. See this examples for more information.

  5. That's it.  It's now running perfectly. Your now using AURSC!  Try and view http://sheesh . At the time of writing this it goes to the AHNET home page, this will change as soon as Ellen Rony creates the SHESSH site!

Now really, that wasn't so bad - was it?

If you can't access http://sheesh you can be pretty sure your ISP isn't doing you any favours. I'd look at this list and see who you can use.
